Pacific Shredding Ltd.

Pacific Shredding Ltd. (PSL) started up in 1994 with the intention of being a long-term reliable supplier of shredded tires to Western Rubber Products.  Conveniently located less than a mile from Western Rubber on Annacis Island, PSL accepted tires from scrap tire haulers as well as generators.  With time, PSL saw both a need and an opportunity in the fact that scrap tire generators in certain areas of BC were not receiving adequate collection service.

The Trucking Division of PSL began in 1995 with a single 5-ton truck hauling tires within the Greater Vancouver area.  The Division has since grown to include a fleet of highway tractors and trailers operating throughout the BC Interior and parts of Greater Vancouver.  Through both its own transportation services and contracts with other Vancouver area and Vancouver Island haulers, PSL directs the movement of all scrap tires within the province.

The first step in the processing of scrap tires is shredding. Tires are delivered to PSL’s 43,000 square foot plant located on 2 acres on Annacis Island. Medium truck tires are debeaded and slit into halves to facilitate the shredding process. Whole passenger and light truck tires and the medium truck halves are then fed into shredding machines which results in either 4-inch or 2-inch shred.

The majority of this shred is then sold and delivered to WRP for granulating. At times a portion of the shred is sold as TDF to industrial users. A secondary product is high quality scrap steel in the form of bead wire that PSL sells to steel recyclers.
